Emily Schapira, President & CEO

Emily is President and CEO of the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA), an independent municipal authority advancing clean energy solutions that last – for people, for neighborhoods, and for the region. Emily has overseen PEA’s expansion and rapidly growing impact since 2016, leading efforts to make energy more affordable, create future-ready jobs, support healthier communities, and build what’s next. In collaboration with the City of Philadelphia, PEA has supported over $1.3 billion in energy efficiency and renewable energy investments, while creating over 11,400 jobs. In 2021, PEA launched Philadelphia Green Capital Corp. (PGCC), the region’s green bank, where Emily serves as board chair, bringing together public, private, and philanthropic funding to finance clean energy programs and projects across Greater Philadelphia. PEA and PGCC work together to scale home preservation program Built to Last and to advance the country’s largest consumer solar program Solarize Greater Philadelphia. Emily has partnered with the City to secure long-term, low-cost solar power that now supplies more than 30 percent of Philadelphia’s electricity needs. Under her leadership, PEA issued the city’s first Sustainability Bond, financing the conversion of every Philadelphia streetlight to LEDs – saving $8 million in annual electricity costs and reducing the city’s carbon footprint by 10 percent. Emily previously worked in private sector sustainability and energy efficiency roles with both startups and Fortune 500 companies.
