Sophia Lee, Board Member

Sophia Lee handles complex commercial, constitutional, environmental, products liability, and mass and toxic tort litigation matters, and advises on environmental, governance, and other regulatory concerns. She represents a wide range of institutions, including public and privately-held companies, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies and officials.

As Blank Rome’s chief diversity and inclusion officer emeritus, Sophia has significant experience in directing the strategy and execution of diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”) initiatives. She helps lead Blank Rome’s service capabilities in DEI and with environmental, social, and governance (“ESG”) matters, advising clients on business-aligned and holistic approaches to advancing DEI and ESG objectives within their organizations.

Energy

Sophia represents energy companies in a range of litigation and regulatory matters. She has experience managing national portfolio litigation consisting of hundreds of toxic tort matters and handling multidistrict litigation. She has also managed government investigations and inquiries and is experienced in developing litigation and information management protocols.

DEI and ESG

Sophia counsels organizations on a range of DEI and ESG concerns, including designing and implementing strategic plans, advising boards of directors and executive leadership teams on strategic alignment and risk assessment, and providing customized leadership development and educational programs. She also teaches DEI in the Legal Profession as an adjunct professor of law at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law.

Civic and Charitable Engagement

Sophia is active in Philadelphia’s civic and charitable communities, serving on several nonprofit boards, including the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, the Philadelphia Education Fund, and the Public Health Management Corporation. She is an active member of the Forum of Executive Women and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. Sophia previously served as vice chair of the Philadelphia Mayor’s Commission on Asian American Affairs.

Sophia is also involved with numerous legal organizations, serving as a board member and past president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania, a board member and past co-president of the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group, and a past diversity chair for the Philadelphia Bar Association. She also serves as a senior hearing committee member for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

In addition to her role as Blank Rome’s chief diversity and inclusion officer emeritus, Sophia serves as co-chair of the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Prior to rejoining Blank Rome, Sophia served as chief litigation counsel at Sunoco, Inc.; in the litigation department of an Am Law 100 firm; and as a federal judicial law clerk to the late Honorable James McGirr Kelly, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. While in law school, she was an intern in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and served as a federal judicial clerkship clinical intern to the Honorable Jerome B. Simandle, U.S. District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

Sophia received her B.A. from Cornell University and her J.D. and LL.M. in Trial Advocacy from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where she was a member of the Temple Law Review and the Moot Court Honor Society.
