PEA Announces Second Phase of Solarize Philly

Tuesday December 5, 2017 the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) held a press conference to celebrate the successes of the first phase of the Solarize Philly Program. PEA was joined by Solarize Philly partners and supporters in the Kensington neighborhood at the home of Solarize Philly participant Kate Zmich, on day 2 of her solar array installation. Solar Manger, Laura Rigell was excited to  announce the milestones of the first phase including:

  • Nearly $3 million invested in solar
  • 2,200 Philadelphians signed up to receive a free solar assessment
  • 186 signed contracts for solar
  • 14 new solar jobs created, half filled by minorities or women
  • Over $200,000 raised for job training and affordable solar options for low and moderate income households
  • 18 students trained in solar installation
  • Streamlined approval timelines with PECO and the Department of Licenses and Inspections

PEA also announced that Solarize Philly Phase 2 is now open for sign-ups and will begin prescreening new projects starting January 2018. Sign up now if you are interested at http://solarizephilly.org/

To make solar more accessible and affordable for all  Philadelphians the second phase of Solarize Philly will pilot a new subsidized financing option. Subsidized financing will be available to 45 households in a pilot program (income guidelines available here), and additional households will receive benefits as funding becomes available. Participants will still be expected to finance a portion of the project, and financing for a variety of credit profiles will be made available. The first group of subsidized households will be selected by April 1st. Please see the Solarize Philly website for more details to see if your household qualifies
