Description

This is technical work conducting detailed energy audits and assessments in addition to resident interviews and educational sessions to promote energy conservation.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  •     Completion of a two (2) year program with major coursework in building science or civil engineering technology at a technical institute

OR

  • Completion of two (2) years [60 credits] at an accredited college or university with major course work in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering or   architectural design
  •     Five (5) years of experience performing technical field work in building renovation, weatherization, furnace repair, and replacement, which has included two (2) years’ experience in energy conservation retrofitting either in design installation or quality control capacity.

OR

  •     Any combination of education and experience that is determined to be equivalent by PHDC, which includes a high school diploma.

AND

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

Summary

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

Knowledge of :

  • The building heat loss dynamics involving pressure differences, radiant, convective, and conductive temperature transfer properties, bypasses, chases, chimney back drafting, and air exfiltration, etc.
  • Blower door theory and operation, including data point regression techniques, leakage area calculation and significance, exponent calculation and significance
  • The relative value of leakage reduction as determined by its location in the house and interrelationship with other house systems
  • Infrared camera theory, use, and application to residential building heat loss
  • Furnace efficiency theory and retrofit applications.
  • Combustion testing, draft testing, and carbon monoxide testing

Ability to:

  • Interpret test results for carbon dioxide, stack temperatures, smoke, carbon monoxide, draft plenum temperature, safety timing and furnace temperature limit controls, and furnace blower depressurization.
  • Learn relevant software applications

Typical Duties:

  • Educates residents on self-energy conservation methods
  • Diagnosis heater units for efficiency
  • Identifies health and safety issues
  • Conducts field visits to assist contractors with site walk-through assessments
  • Performs pre-inspection at weatherization process finalization to ensure compliance with QCI standards
  • Performs technical research for energy efficiency measures and calculates potential energy savings
  • Prepare reports
  • Performs related work as required
