Legislative Aide

The Office of City Councilmember Helen Gym, a progressive champion whose work moves at the local and national level, seeks a motivated individual who is passionate about public policy and transformative change to serve as Legislative Aide.

The Legislative Aide furthers the work of the Councilmember through legislative and policy initiatives in concert with movement organizing. Typical work includes: conceiving, drafting, and advancing bills and policy reforms; tracking and analyzing pending legislation; representing the Councilmember in a legislative capacity in a variety of settings; and working closely with movement groups and coalitions. This position is suited for a talented, detail-oriented policy leader with an ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and prolific office. Requirements for the position include: demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice; passion for using law and policy to advance equity, justice, and progressive social change; close attention to detail; excellent writing and communications skills; understanding of key policy issues at the local and national level, in particular public education policy; and comfort and familiarity with movement organizing and coalitions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in law, policy, and/or local government
  • Ability to attend night and weekend events
  • Resident of the City of Philadelphia
  • Driver’s license preferred

Education or professional work as an attorney is beneficial but not required.
