The Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA), an independent municipal authority, is working to build a robust, equitable clean energy economy in Philadelphia. Chartered by City Council and the Mayor in 2010, PEA is a quasi-governmental entity. In 2016, in partnership with City Council President Darrell Clarke, PEA launched the Philadelphia Energy Campaign, a $1 billion, 10-year investment in energy efficiency and clean energy projects to create 10,000 jobs. Through 2025, PEA has helped launch over $1 billion in projects and created 8,400 jobs. We focus on municipal assets, schools, low- and moderate-income housing, small businesses and commercial and industrial projects and programs. We view energy as a high impact tool for reducing poverty, improving education, strengthening communities and leveraging public investment.

Job Title: Workforce Development Intern
Organization: Philadelphia Energy Authority
Location: Primarily Hybrid (Philadelphia), with some in-person collaboration at PEA’s office, potential site visits to Philadelphia-based programs and employer sites.
Type: Internship
Timeframe: April 2026-June 2026
Compensation: Paid, up to 15 hours per week, depending on the candidate’s schedule

Job Description

Interns are an integral part of the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA). You are critical to expanding our outreach and impact. The Intern will be a detail-oriented and organized team player with a high level of comfort managing multiple competing priorities and needs. The intern will support the PEA’s Workforce Development Team’s ongoing development and buildout of an internal data management system within a new CRM software and efficient operation of new systems within the organization’s secure drive. This intern will be integral in assisting the Workforce Development Coordinator with the implementation and troubleshooting of these projects.  

Experience working within a data lifecycle (data entry, data reporting, data analysis, data privacy/retention), marginalized populations, workforce services, clean energy/green trades experience, and/or community-based organizations will be very beneficial. This internship will provide the intern with practical experience in project strategy and coordination, development, problem-solving, data management, operational management, and a greater understanding of reporting grant outcomes to federal/state/municipal entities. The intern will be asked to support other programs or projects as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Workforce Development Coordinator’s efforts in the technical buildout within Monday CRM for the Workforce Team (data entry/migration, minimal coding to implement automations, tagging groups of data, development of anchor/block process flow, data cleaning)
  • Assist with the final system outline of the Workforce Team’s CRM
  • Support file management and labeling of bulk data within Google Drive
  • Create, build, and maintain applicable forms, templates, and polls within Google Drive and/or Monday.com
  • Assist the Workforce Development Coordinator in the preparation of grant reporting to federal/state/municipal entities.  
  • Provide administrative support to the Workforce Development team as needed
  • Provide ongoing assistance to program staff, students, and volunteers during programs

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Alumni of a PEA Workforce-affiliated Training Program or demonstrated experience  within the clean energy/green trades industry  OR current Graduate/Undergraduate student with a concentration in Social Work, Communications, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, or other familiar content areas.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and program management tools like Monday.com.
  • Proficiency in Coding, IT, SQL, Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, Data Visualization Tools (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Experience managing elements within a data lifecycle 
  • A demonstrated interest in Philadelphia’s workforce development ecosystem, servicing individuals of varying ages.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in energy, sustainability, climate change, urban education, and/or other relevant topics.
  • A passion for Philadelphia and a desire to support diverse, marginalized communities with dignity and respect.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, some experience with social media a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Must be collaborative and enjoy working with others.
  • Must be willing to complete background checks 
  • Must be willing to travel within the city of Philadelphia
